Buddha Hash is made in the temple-ball tradition — resin rolled by hand until it forms a dense, glossy sphere. Rolling rather than pressing is the whole difference: the friction and warmth of the hands slowly polish the outside to a lacquered shine while the centre stays soft and dark. It is the slowest way to make hash and it shows in the finish.
Even and long. The onset is gentler than a hard-pressed block and the effect settles in over ten to twenty minutes, landing somewhere calm and heavy-limbed without arriving all at once. Good for a long evening rather than a quick one.
Warm a small piece between your fingers until it gives, then either roll it into a snake for a joint or press it flat onto a bowl of flower. Temple-ball style hash also rewards a low-temperature vaporizer — 190–210 °C brings out the sweeter, resinous end of the aroma that gets lost in open flame.
The shape and the method. Temple balls are rolled by hand into spheres rather than pressed flat in a mould, which polishes the surface and seals the resin inside.
Hand-rolling burnishes the surface. That glossy skin also protects the softer resin underneath, which is part of why temple balls keep so well.
A grain of rice for most people; half that if it is your first time with hash.

Hash is compressed cannabis resin — the trichome heads separated from the plant and pressed into a block. That makes it several times stronger than flower by weight, so the amounts are much smaller: a piece the size of a grain of rice is a normal serving. Hash also behaves differently with heat. Traditional hash wants gentle, indirect warmth, which is why hot-knifing and bowl-topping have outlasted every trend.
Warm a small piece between your fingers until it's pliable, crumble or roll it into a thin snake, and lay it along the flower before rolling. The flower keeps it burning evenly — hash on its own tends to go out.
Pack a normal bowl of flower, then set a rice-grain piece of hash on top. Light the edge gently. The flower underneath carries the heat and you get the hash flavour on the first pull.
Heat the blades until just glowing, pick up a small piece of hash on one, press the second against it, and inhale the vapour through a cut-off bottle neck or funnel. Fast and needs no gear — but it is genuinely hot, so use a heatproof surface and never a non-stick pan.
Best for modern solventless hash such as bubble hash or rosin. Heat the banger, let it cool to 160–200 °C, drop in a small dab, and cap it. Low temperature is the whole point — hash carries delicate terpenes that burn off above about 230 °C.
Use a concentrate cup or insert rather than dropping hash onto a bare herb chamber. Set 190–210 °C and draw slowly. Cleanest flavour of any method and very easy to keep the dose small.
| Method | Onset | Peak | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smoked with flower | Seconds to 5 minutes | 10–30 minutes | 2–4 hours |
| Hot knifed | Immediate | 5–20 minutes | 2–3 hours |
| Dabbed or vaporized | Immediate | 5–30 minutes | 2–4 hours |
| Experience | Per session | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| First time | Half a grain of rice (roughly 0.02 g) | Noticeably stronger than the same weight of flower. Wait 15 minutes. |
| Occasional | One grain of rice (0.05 g) | Full-bodied and warm; the classic hash effect. |
| Regular | 0.1–0.2 g | Heavy, long-lasting, strongly physical. |
| Experienced | 0.2 g+ or a full dab | Very strong. Sit down for this one. |
